It is indeed that magical time of the year again. Christmas is here, and with it comes the 2011 Honolulu City Lights. Honolulu City Lights opening night is set for December 3rd, 2011 at Honolulu Hale. The lights are slated to stay up until January 1st, 2012.
The 36th year of Honolulu City Lights brings with it a ton of fun activities and events for the family. Opening night on December 3rd is packed with festivities, but Honolulu City Lights always has a ton to do, and remains one of the most popular Christmas Attractions in Hawaii.
Below you will find all the information you need regarding Opening Night, as well as the key dates for everything else going on during the 2011 version of Honolulu City Lights. Honolulu City Lights Opening Night Schedule (December 3rd)
Where: Honolulu Hale
4pm: Food booths, keiki rides and t-shirt, souvenir and novelty (glowstick and blinkies) vendors open for business on the Civic Center grounds.
5pm: Concert at Kawaiahao Church, which is open to the public.
6pm: The tree lighting ceremony at Honolulu Hale begins with special guests. The Electric Light Parade also starts at Aala Park and proceeds down King Street.
6:30pm: Mayor Peter B. Carlisle will be on hand to light the 50-foot City Christmas tree, kicking off the illumination of lights on trees and buildings from the Civic Center to Downtown to Chinatown. The decorated tree display in the Honolulu Hale Courtyard and the wreath contest exhibit in Lane Gallery officially opens to the public.
7:30pm: The big Holiday Concert at the Sky Gate starts. On hand to play will be:

- Taimane
- Star Kalahiki
- Ambassadors in Motion
- New Hope Band & Singers and Halau of New Hope
The night’s entertainment will continue until 10 pm. Santa disembarks the last float in the parade and goes to the Mission Memorial Auditorium for free picture taking until 9 pm. Electric Light Parade vehicles (City bus, ambulance, refuse truck, and more) will park on King Street in front of the Mission Memorial Building until 9 pm for people to visit.
Opening night will be a magical time, be sure to get out there and be a part of it!
Honolulu City Lights Special Event Nights
Saturday, December 11th at the Honolulu Hale Grounds will feature family movie night at 7pm. There will be a free showing of the classic “The Wizard of Oz.” Food trucks and popcorn vendors will be on hand.
Saturday, December 11th at the Honolulu Hale Courtyard will feature Kraft Foods in Hawaii “Free Photo with Santa” from 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Thursday, December 22nd at the Honolulu Hale Courtyard will feature Kraft Foods in Hawaii “Free Photo with Santa” from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
Friday, December 16th at the Honolulu Hale Front Steps area will feature Toys for Tots Collection Drive with the Stormtroppers of the 501st Legion from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
Friday, December 16th at the Honolulu Hale Front Steps area will feature Free Milk and Cookies Night presented by Hawaii Foodservice Alliance from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.
December 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th, 22nd, & 23rd at the Flagpole area in front of Fasi Memorial Building will feature ING DIRECT Free Hot Chocolate Nights from 6pm – 9pm.
December 4 – 24 at the Flagpole area in front of Fasi Memorial Building will feature the Eat the Street and Streetgrinz.com Food Truck. This will run during the evenings.
