Everyone that lives in Hawaii knows that there are numerous 4th of July celebrations on every island, but there are also Hawaiian style 4th of July celebrations. While there may be some similarities, celebrating the 4th of July Hawaiian style really does take on a whole new meaning.
Yes, I know I am Hauli, but I did grow up in Hawaii and I know exactly what goes down when you celebrate the 4th of July Hawaiian style. With that being said, what are some of the best ways to celebrate the 4th of July Hawaiian style? Well, there are a number of ways to do it, but here are some of the best.
Celebrate the 4th of July Hawaiian Style With These Options
4th of July Hawaiian Style Beach BBQ
I think most of us can agree that this should top the list. Hawaii beach BBQ’s are already stuff of legend and when you throw a National Holiday into the mix things get downright nuts!
See, not only do we celebrate the 4th of July on the beach with a blowout BBQ, but we do it from 8 am in the morning until midnight. Yep, there is no stopping it once you get family and friends together. Plus, you want to have plenty of time for cooking, drinking, eating, games, beach and surf.
Just because it gets dark doesn’t mean the party stops, it simply means it is time for more food and drink, and of course, 4th of July Fireworks. Since this is Hawaii, we like to watch our fireworks right on the beach.
4th of July Hawaiian Style House Party
Think of it along the same lines of the beach BBQ, except everyone is getting together at the house for a mayjah rayjah (look it up, it means something amazing)!
4th of July Hawaiian style house parties have been known to get out of hand fast, not in a bad way, just in a way of celebration. While other parts of America are enjoying a more low key party a Hawaiian style 4th of July house party is taking it to the next level. Not sure who the person standing next to you is? No worries, everyone is Ohana for the party, so sit back, chill and enjoy the day.
Popping Firecrackah
No, I didn’t misspell anything, I actually spelled the term the way it should be spelt and pronounced everywhere. We don’t shoot fireworks off in Hawaii, we go and pop firecrackahs.
Yes, there are certain permits you need to acquire these days to set off fireworks in Hawaii, but honestly that is laughable, because everyone still does it. It isn’t a true 4th of July Hawaiian Style celebration until you have popped firecrackah with your Ohana and your friends.
We Go Surf
Surfing is Hawaii’s pastime, so why not go surf on 4th of July? Well, we do, so you should too. We like to wake up at the crack of dawn, get the surfboard ready and then hit the beach for an all day surf session. How do we end our amazing Hawaiian Style 4th of July? You guessed it, we go eat and pop firecrackah.
Watching Fireworks On the Beach
Yes, we enjoy watching fireworks on the 4th of July just like every other state. However, we like to do it Hawaiian style by watching our fireworks displays from the beach. Wind in your hair, ocean breezes on your face, the smell of the islands, having your friends and Ohana by your side. Watching fireworks on the beach is how we do it Hawaiian style on the 4th of July.
I may be a little biased having grown up in Hawaii, but I guarantee you there is no better place to be on the 4th of July than in Hawaii. On the flipside, there may be some great things going on around the rest of the nation on the 4th of July, but nothing can compare to celebrating the 4th if July Hawaiian style. Cheeehooooo gang. Aloha and have a safe and happy 4th of July celebration whatever your plans may be.
