The University of Hawaii head coach Gib Arnold and the rest of his staff have been hard at work recruiting the new basketball class for the 2011-2012 men’s basketball season. There are several key additions and coach Arnold and his staff have done an excellent job this year.
The overall class is pretty solid, with the standout grab being New York City Player of the Year Shaquille Stokes, who signed a national letter of intent and will join the Rainbow Warriors this fall with four years of eligibility.
Stokes, a 5-10 point guard, averaged 18.4 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game this past season as a senior for Lincoln High School in New York. He led Lincoln to a 29-3 record, a runner-up finish in the city championship and a No. 21 national ranking by USA Today.
Hawaii doesn’t get many players of this caliber who come in with a full four years of eligibility so this could be something special. The last time UH had a guard that ad this much potential they were loaded with Anthony Carter and Alika Smith in the backcourt. We will see what happens with Stokes.
