A Waikoloa home was completely destroyed on Christmas by a fire that raged through the home very quickly. The fire destroyed the structure and a Porsche parked in the garage.
Hawaii County firefighters say gusty winds may have contributed to the quick spread of the fire, which was reported at 7:16 p.m. at 68-3556 West Makuahine Street. Firefighters arriving at 7:23 p.m. said they found the structure fully involved in flames from the garage to the lanai in the back of the home. The flames had also sparked a small brush fire in the back of the home.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 8:19 p.m. and extinguished the flames at 9:26 p.m. A Mercedes parked in the driveway of the home also suffered front end damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There have been quite a few fires lately, and losing your entire home on Christmas is terrible. Hopefully this family will receive the help it needs to rebuild.
