The University of Hawaii basketball team fell a little short in their game against New Mexico State in the WAC semifinals. Coming off their first WAC tournament win in 7-years, the Warriors looked poised to give New Mexico State a run, with the winner advancing to the WAC title game tomorrow night. However is was not to be, as a big early hole and no Zane Johnson proved too much for the Warrior basketball team to overcome.
The game started badly for UH, who got into a quick 17-0 hole to start the game. However, after a timeout the Warriors played inspired basketball the rest of the night. The game ended up being very entertaining, as Hawaii outscored New Mexico State by 7 points the rest of the way.
The Warriors got to within three points at one point, but then had a little foul trouble and just didn’t have quite enough in the tank to dig themselves out of the early 17-0 lead that the Aggies had on them.
This game doesn’t officially end the season for the University of Hawaii basketball team. They will indeed play in the College Insider basketball tournament. However, any chance at the NCAA tournament would only have happened if they had won the WAC. The NIT will not come calling either, as the Warriors did not sport a good enough regular season record.
