If you know about the Spitting Caves in Hawaii then you know that the area is beautiful, fascinating and very dangerous. Apparently that danger is what draws many. A popular activity for people who visit the Spitting Caves is cliff diving. Cliff diving the spitting caves in Hawaii had become quite a popular activity and remains quite popular, despite the dangers and the warnings. There are warning signs posted, but this doesn’t stop people from taking their chances.
Located on Oahu at Portlock Point, Spitting Caves has a ton of natural beauty and people come for a number of reasons, including fishing, site seeing, and of course, cliff diving. It isn’t necessarily the drop into the water that puts you into the most danger, it is the fact that you have to time the jump perfectly with the ocean swell or you will end up being pushed right into the rock/cave below. There are lower points to jump from, and in the video above the group of male and female cliff divers do indeed jump from all points.
Oftentimes there is a spotter placed further down next to the water that will help point out the perfect time to jump. Either way, the activity is both breathless and amazing to watch. I wouldn’t recommend this to someone who doesn’t know what they are doing, as it isn’t like jumping off the Waimea Rock.
Check out the video above for some fascinating footage of some amazing cliff divers doing their thing at the Spitting Caves. The video above is full of great jumps and amazing scenery. However, the guys and girls in the video seem to know what they are doing, as they are very precise and calculated with their moves and tricks.
I have been to the Spitting Caves several times and have jumped myself, but not from the highest point. Maybe it is time to check that off the bucket list. Enjoy!
