The University of Hawaii Wahine volleyball team beat Colorado State tonight in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament and moved into the sweet sixteen. Hawaii will once again host two more rounds, and stay home to play for a chance to advance to the Final Four for the second straight year.
Kanani Danielson led the way for the Wahine as she was able to put down 22 kills, while Jane Croson added 11 to lead No. 3 Hawaii to a 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-18 victory over Colorado State tonight in an NCAA women’s volleyball tournament second-round match at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Danielson notched her 20th double-double when finishing with 20 digs. Croson also had 20 digs and two aces. The Rainbow Wahine (31-1) had 10 aces against the Rams.(25-5), three each by Brittany Hewitt and Emily Hartong. Dana Cranston had 14 kills for Colorado State. The Wahine took 4 matches to get past Colorado State, which was a tougher opponent than Northern Colorado in the opening round.
Hawaii advances to play the winner of Saturday’s match betwen USC and Tulsa in next Friday’s match at the Stan Sheriff Center. If you are interested in tickets, then you can purchase them from the Stan Sheriff Center box office. Hurry, as the tickets will sell out. A packed house of almost 8,000 came out to see this one, so next week’s rounds should push the 10,000 mark.
