well.being — ‘Take It Back’ Feat. Mr. Wade & The Soul Pacific
There are a ton of underground musical artist and producers that hail from the Hawaiian Islands. However, there is one who has been around for over a decade and has carved out a nice little following for himself and his crew. Grant “Kapono” Kanoho, who goes by the moniker “well.being” when he drops music on the scene, has slowly but surely become one of the more popular underground music artist in the islands today. His latest single “Take it Back,” which drops before his eagerly anticipated new album “Hawaiian Slack Key Legends Vol. 66,” takes a sample loop from Keali’i Reichel’s “Wanting Memories,” one of the most popular songs to ever come out locally, and he has ended up coming away with a sure fire local hit that has a chance to spread to the mainland if handled properly.
For those of you who are wondering, yes, the sample was used legally, as it was approved by Punahele Productions & Keali’i Reichel. Some of you may know well.being from several of his tracks that have come out in the past. He is also part of a threesome known as NoMasterBacks, which gained popularity in Hawaii and on the West Coast several years ago when they released a couple of independent albums that maintained a number 1 position on college radio KTUH for quite some time.
NoMasterBacks does have plans to release another album, but in the meantime well.being has been hard at work on his solo project, one that has taken a lot of time and effort from many people to come together. He is also involved a lot with the LightSleepers crew, which you may also know. They last collaborated on a fun Christmas project called “A Lightsleepers Christmas Musical.” Again, the sample taken from Keali’i Reichel’s “Wanting Memories” gives the song immediate attraction, but well-being and the rest of the artists on the track have put together some interesting verses to make it their own. Handled properly, the single has a chance to become a hit locally and maybe even move its way to the mainland. The video also takes you to several popular local spots that are now closed, as well.being and the rest of the artist reminisce.
Check out the song and the video below. The single will be dropping on iTunes shortly so if you are interested in supporting well.being and the rest of the crew go purchase it. Video production credits and other credits are listed below the video. Have a listen to the song and tell us what you think.
