A story ran a couple weeks ago regarding a violent townhouse fire in Makakilo. Now, police have reportedly arrested a Makakilo man who allegedly set fire to his Makakilo townhouse after a violent argument with his wife.
No one was injured in the scary blaze a couple of weeks ago. The fire consumed the end unit of four conjoined duplex townhouses at 92-987 Makakilo Drive. The fire caused about $150,000 damage to the unit and contents at the Palehua Gardens townhouse complex.
Police were not able to identify or arrest a suspect until the suspect turned himself in yesterday. Police then arrested the 35-year old male for first-degree arson and abuse of a family member.
Before the 9:40 p.m. fire, a neighbor said he heard a woman screaming and saw the suspect outside on the sidewalk hitting his wife. Neighbors helped the woman and her children get away.
After the man returned to the townhouse, neighbors said they heard a loud noise and saw smoke and flames coming from the first floor of the two-story unit.
Thankfully the woman and her children were not harmed during the fire.
