University of Hawaii quarterback Cayman Shutter has been suspended indefinitely from the Warrior football team. This suspension comes after the recruit’s recent arrest on suspicion of drunk driving.
Head coach Norm Chow said during a news briefing before today’s spring practice that Shutter is a “good young man” who made a bad decision. Shutter will not lose his scholarship or be kicked off the team. He is allowed to remain on campus and must attend all classes. However, during his suspension he is prohibited from practicing, coming to the field, or participating in any team activities.
Head coach Norm Chow did not put a specific timetable on Shutter’s suspension. He simply said that the suspension could last 1-day, or could last through the entire 2012-football season.
The suspension is based on Shutter violating team rules and more discipline could still come based on what happens in the future with his case.
Chow said he would not recruit another quarterback right now.
