We have hit the weekend here again in Hawaii and everyone will be busy planning and figuring out what they want to do. This weekend is even more special than most considering it is Mother’s Day weekend and everyone will be trying to figure out what to get Mom. Here’s what to do in Hawaii this weekend.

Eat The Street: Mighty Mo

For the first time, Street Grindz is bringing its “Eat the Street” to the Battleship Missouri Memorial – the “Mighty Mo” – for a special eating and entertainment experience over the water at Pier Foxtrot 5, home to the retired USS Missouri.
On Saturday, May 9, food trucks will park on the Missouri’s 1,000-foot pier in historic Pearl Harbor. In addition to the fun, flavors and festivities pierside of “Eat the Street,” guests will enjoy a beautiful sunset and limited tours of America’s last and most famous battleship.
“Eat the Street: Mo Bettah Edition” will begin serving food at 3:00 p.m., with free limited tours of the Battleship Missouri Memorial beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Complimentary shuttle service over the Ford Island Bridge will be provided to those without base access from the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center. Parking near the Battleship Missouri Memorial will be available to those with access to Ford Island.
Wahiawa Pineapple Festival

Join the local community at the Annual Wahiawa Pineapple Festival and discover the rich history of pineapple in Wahiawa and Hawaii. Highlights include a parade, a delectable variety of ethnic cuisine, children’s games and activities, fresh produce, crafts, and entertainment and there’s even a jazz festival included!
The Parade: The day begins at 9 a.m. with a parade up California Avenue to the District Park. We will have marching bands, floats, and military units. This will be a typical small town parade – Hawaiian style.
For the Shopper: There will be over 40 craft vendors selling a variety of high-quality items. Low on cash? Not to worry – the Bank of Hawaii is providing convenient ATMs. In addition to the many craft vendors, there will be others selling fresh island fruit, kettle corn, orchid plants, etc.
For the Curious: A number of non-profit organizations will have booths at the Festival. They will be handing out information on their services such as health care, scholarships and care of the environment. In addition, there will be a cultural tent in which the rich history of Wahiawa’s different ethnic groups that came to work in the pineapple camps will be displayed.
For the Keiki: The young ones will enjoy the bouncers and other children’s rides. There is a small charge for this activity, but the children seem to have a great time. Besides this, there will be face painting, balloon animals, cotton candy and shaved ice booths.
For the Hungry: A number of local restaurants will have booths selling a variety of hot food. This has been one of the most popular features of past Festivals. In the past we have had everything from hotdogs to Thai, Mexican and Korean food. Plan on having lunch and dinner at the Festival.
For the Music Lover: The Festival has daylong free entertainment. In the main tent, the morning is given to local-style entertainment.
The 4th Annual Wahiawa Jazz Festival begins at 2:00 p.m.– a Festival within a Festival. Top-flight entertainers will be performing and it’s all Free. This is a great opportunity to spend a memorable afternoon of live jazz. You won’t be sorry.
Honolulu Mini Maker Faire 2015

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth–a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.
Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community
This is their second year holding a Mini Maker Faire in Honolulu! They have added a 2nd soldering workshop, a raspberry pi workshop, and two drone racing events.

Hawaii Symphony Orchestra Presents Otomo Returns

Japanese conductor Naoto Otomo and pianist Orion Weiss will perform together in an exciting concert, featuring works by Japanese composer Yasyshu Akutagawa, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Béla Bartók. The concert begins with Akutagawa’s Triptyque for String Orchestra, a Stravinsky and Ifukube-influenced piece written in 1953. The concert continues with Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C Major, No.25 featuring the pianist Orion Weiss, and concludes with Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra.
This marks Naoto Otomo’s third appearance with the Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra in the past two years. Welcome back, Maestro!
