A storm coming out of New Zealand last wee has caused the national Weather Service to issue a high-surf advisory for the South Shore of Oahu today and going into Saturday. The rest of the Oahu shoreline is expected to see increase heights in waves as well.
Surfers should get their boards ready, as wave are expected to be in the 6ft – 8ft range on the South Shore today, as well as into late Saturday.
West shores are seeing some wrap around surf from both swells. Waves are forecast to be 3- to 6-feet. East shore surf, driven by light tradewinds, is predicted to be 1- to 3-feet today. Forecasters warn that the high surf could produce dangerous rip currents.
Even if you are an experienced surfer you need to be careful, as rip currents in Hawaii are known to be pretty bad during high-surf advisories.
