The federal agent charged with murder in the shooting death of a man in a Waikiki McDonald’s restaurant is scheduled to be arraigned in Circuit Court in Honolulu today. State Department Special Agent Christopher Deedy is charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a separate felony.
Honolulu police say Deedy and Kollin Elderts were involved in an early-morning argument at a McDonald’s on Nov. 5 when the shooting occurred. The 23-year-old Kailua man died of a single gunshot wound to his chest and the 27-year-old agent was arrested at the scene.
Deedy’s defense attorney has said the agent was protecting himself and others.
Deedy was in Honolulu to help with security for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
