Alex O’Loughlin, the star of the hit television series Hawaii Five-0 is going to take a leave from the show to get some help with his pain medication problem. This according to both his representatives and CBS.
“Alex is taking a short break to receive supervised treatment for prescription pain medication due to a recent shoulder injury,” said a statement from Rachael Wesolowski, one of O’Loughlin’s representatives.
“We respect and support Alex’s decision,” CBS Studios, which produces the series, said in a statement. “Everyone at CBS Television Studios and ‘Hawaii Five-0’ wishes him well and we look forward to his return.” This isn’t the first sign of trouble the show has been in. Previous guest stars have been arrested, and the Hawaii Five-0 crew has even had a publicized run-in with Hawaii veterans.
We can’t speculate one way or another whether or not the treatment really is for a pain medication problem he picked up for his various injuries, but we can indeed confirm that O’Loughlin does do most of his own stunts. The chance that he may have been hurt during one of the stunts is highly probable.
O’Loughlin, who portrays Steve McGarrett, leader of a crime-fighting team, will reportedly be absent for at least one episode. According to CBS, the show he will be absent on was to focus on other characters anyway so it wasn’t hard to write him out of that episode.
CBS executives say that after filming episode 20, the show will take a short hiatus before returning to finish the rest of season 2 filming. All reports now have Alex O’Loughlin confirmed to resume filming after the hiatus.
