Kauai firefighters rescued a 62 year-old male visitor from California who had broken his ankle on the Hanakapiai Trail late this afternoon, according to a Kauai County news release.
The visitor fell and fractured his ankle while hiking near the half-mile mark in on the trail to Hanakapiai Beach, the news release said.
Firefighters responded to the scene and prepared the hiker to be lifted in a rescue basket, and the fire rescue helicopter extricated the injured man and transport him to the Princeville Airport, according to the news release.
Medics were waiting his arrival and transported him to the hospital.
There seems to have been several stories lately of injured and lost hikers throughout our islands. Visitors to Hawaii need to be much more careful when they are hiking in Hawaii, as it is more dangerous than many people think.
