The island of Kauai is currently experiencing an island-wide power outage due to an accident that occurred earlier today. The Port Allen Power Generating Station on Kaua’i knocked out power to the entire island after the accident occurred. This according to the Kaua’i Island Utility Cooperative.
Company officials released a statement saying that a transformer failure that tripped the generation units at Port Allen was to blame for the outage. Right now it is estimated that over 24,000 people are without power due to the island-wide power outage on Kauai.
Officials are currently working on the situation, and power is trying to be restored as soon as possible. Officials from the Kaua’i Island Utility Cooperative said earlier that power would probably not be restored to anyone before 6:30 p.m., and that it will likely take hours before power is restored to all customers.
