A Hawaii Army National Guard soldier died on Kauai Wednesday afternoon while on duty at a vehicle maintenance shop. The Guard soldier, who worked as a full-time federal technician, was found unresponsive by another soldier and taken to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 1 p.m., the National Guard said in a release.
Officials said the cause of death is unknown at this time. Although the family has been notified, the Hawaii National Guard said it would not release the soldier’s name “until the appropriate time to protect the family’s privacy.”
The Guard said it would assign a casualty assistance officer to support the family “during this difficult time.”
