A teenage woman is dead and after being struck by a car in a hit and run incident on Kamehameha Highway last night.
At about 8:45 p.m., a 19-year-old woman crossing Kamehameha Highway in the crosswalk near Hawaii Pacific University was struck by a white sedan sports car traveling in the Kaneohe-bound lanes. Police said she had almost completed crossing to the HPU side of the highway when she was struck.
The woman was taken in critical condition to Castle Medical Center where she died, police said.
Police shut the Kaneohe-bound lanes of Kamehameha Highway, from the Pali Highway to the H-3 interchange, until about 2:45 a.m. today while they investigated.
The car, which has “severe” front-end damage, fled toward Kaneohe, police said. The road was wet at the time of the collision, and it is unknown if speed or alcohol were factors in the fatal accident.
Why do people run when they hit someone? Don’t they know the consequences will only be worse?
