The search for a missing Maui hiker resumed yesterday on Maui after being suspended on Sunday night due to darkness and rescuers have now found a body.
Maui police said the body of a man has been found at about 4:30 p.m. Monday in Haiku, where they had been searching for a missing hiker.
Maui firefighters had resumed searching this morning the rugged terrain of Maliko Gulch in Haiku for the 29-year-old hiker missing since Friday.
The man’s girlfriend reported him missing on Friday. He was last seen walking along a pineapple field between 3 and 5 p.m.
Air and ground searches, which included 20 volunteers and three Maui detectives, were conducted in the Maliko Gulch in eastern Maui from the ocean to Kaluanui Road on Sunday.
Details on the exact location and condition of the body were not available Monday evening.
