Another big earthquake hit Japan yesterday, but no tsunami warning was issued for Japan or Hawaii. A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 has hit off the shores of Japan’s southern Okinawa Island.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach said there was no threat of Pacific-wide tsunami. Officials said the quake about 133 miles away from the island and 310 miles east-northeast of Taiwan. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Earthquakes continue to hobble Japan, as it seems they have a big one there almost monthly. Hopefully there will be no tsunami, because we are still dealing with the after-effects of the last one.
Northeastern Japan was devastated by a massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11 that left nearly 20,000 people dead or missing. Japan, which lies along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” is one of the world’s most seismically active countries.
