Travel and Leisure magazine has just come out with its countdown of the “World’s 10 Best Islands” piece and Hawaii has ranked two of its islands within the article. This shouldn’t be a surprise, what was a surprise is that Hawaii only ranked two of its islands in the survey.
Maui and Kauai both made the cut, coming in at numbers 3 and 7 respectively. While many of us who already live in Hawaii know and understand the beauty of the islands, it is pieces like this from huge publications that allow us to sit back, relax, and really take in the paradise we live in.
Here are the excerpts that Travel and Leisure magazine posted with the islands.
#3 Maui: Maui has won over T+L readers once again as the most sought-after Hawaiian island. Can you blame it? Just consider the evidence: the surfer haven of Paia; the heart-stopping scenic drive past secret waterfalls to Hana; miles of perfect coastline like Napili Beach; lush valleys; and otherworldly trails along Haleakala volcano.
#7 Kauai: A playground for nature enthusiasts, laid-back Kauai is covered with verdant mountainous landscapes, plunging waterfalls, scenic hiking trails (layered along the dramatic Na Pali Coast and Waimea Canyon), and more than 60 beaches. The South Shore’s Poipu Beach or Princeville’s Hanalei Bay beach will put you in instant vacation mode—especially if you have a mai tai in hand.
In my opinion Kauai should have been ranked higher, but can’t complain too much. Once again we are lucky we live Hawaii! Hawaii is always popping up on “top 10 lists,” so keep an eye out.
Here are the top 10 islands in order from the Travel and Leisure piece.
