A little bit of good news has come out of the educational arena for Hawaii. University of Hawaii’s community colleges will receive a total of right around $25 million dollars that will be designated for training and workforce development.
The award for Hawaii community colleges is part of the nearly $500 million in total grant money that was given out to community colleges around the nation by the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Education. The money comes from the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training initiative.
This is a bit of good news for Hawaii’s educational system. It seems more often than not, news about Hawaii and education is negative.
This new grant money should allow Hawaii community colleges to partner with local businesses to create and continue workforce development programs. The programs are designed to create jobs in the agriculture, energy and healthcare industries.
