A huge south shore swell is expected today on Oahu, Hawaii. Surf is expected to rise to 8 – 12 feet on Oahu’s south shore, which will prompt a “high-surf advisory” from the National Weather Service that is expected to last until 6pm Wednesday.
There was a big storm near New Zealand last week that is the culprit here. The storm surf has now made it to Hawaii and is expected to bring with it 6 to 8-foot range this morning and rise this afternoon with sets of 12 feet.
The surf is expected to produce dangerous rip currents. So if you plan on going out make sure you are properly prepared. Conversely, if you are an amateur in the water, it is advisable not to head out.
Surf conditions are good on the rest of Oahu’s shores as well. West shores should see surf of 3- to 6-feet this morning and 5- to 10-feet this afternoon. North and east shores are predicted to be 3- to 5-feet.
The south swell could continue through Thursday. Enjoy your surf!
