Parents, it is time to do your part in helping police in a search for a man in a blue van who is approaching children. Police said they are looking into three incidents in which people reported that a man in a dark blue van approached children in Salt Lake and nearby Navy housing.
The first incident was in December, when a man sitting in a van in Salt Lake exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl as she walked by, police said. In two incidents in January, a man approached a 10-year-old boy, then a 14-year-old girl, in or near Navy housing, police said. Both children left without being harmed.
Police said they are investigating whether the incidents are related. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call police. Police urge children to play or walk in a group whenever possible, avoid talking to strangers and stay away from strangers’ vehicles, even if the driver promises something. Police suggest children take the safest route to school and to tell an adult if they see someone who doesn’t belong there.
Remember parents, this story is going to get out, so the man may have moved on from the area. If you see a suspicious looking man trying to approach children from a blue van anywhere on the island, please call the police immediately.
