A sailor on Kauai who was minding his own business while participating in a beach clean up found a message in bottle that had been dropped in the ocean more than five years ago by a Japanese school girl.
Petty Officer Jon Moore stumbled upon the clear glass bottle today at the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai. Inside, he found a note from Saki Arikawa, four origami flowers, and a photo of Arikawa’s sixth grade glass in Kagoshima.
“I wrote this letter because we’ll graduate elementary school so I wanted it to be a graduation memory,” said the note dated March 25, 2006.
These message in a bottle stories are really starting to surface a lot lately, especially in Hawaii. It was only last month that Trinity Ballesteros — a 9-year old girl from Kona found a message in a bottle from Thomas Craig of Silverton of Oregon.
It seems the pacific current is leading all of these messages to Hawaii. Don’t be surprised if another one turns up soon. People are also now going to start reading these stories and they are going to start putting their own messages in a bottle in hopes that one day someone will find it.
